Connecting Your Own Web Address

Using your own web address helps local customers find your work online. Connecting a domain like www.yourbusiness.com takes about five minutes.

You need to log in to the company where you bought your domain name. This could be 123 Reg, GoDaddy, Namecheap, or IONOS.

Step 1: Open your address settings

  1. Log in to your domain provider website.
  2. Find your domain name in your account list.
  3. Click on Manage DNS or DNS Settings.

Step 2: Link your address to site.vu

  1. Look at your settings list. Find the line with CNAME and www.
  2. Click Edit. If you do not see it, click Add New Record.
  3. Enter these details:
  • Type: CNAME
  • Name or Host: www
  • Points To: yourbusiness.site.vu (use your actual site.vu page link)
  • TTL: Automatic (or 3600)
  1. Save your changes. This points online visitors directly to your page to view proof of your work.

Step 3: Forward your main web address

Make sure customers reach your page even if they skip typing "www".

  1. Look for Domain Forwarding or Redirects in your settings.
  2. Set up a permanent (301) redirect from yourbusiness.com to [https://www.yourbusiness.com](https://www.yourbusiness.com).

Step 4: Save your web address in site.vu

  1. Log in to your site.vu dashboard.
  2. Click Custom Domain from the menu.
  3. Enter [www.yourbusiness.com](https://www.yourbusiness.com) and click Save Custom Domain.

What happens next?

  • Waiting time: It takes 15 to 30 minutes for your new address to work everywhere. Sometimes it can take up to 24 hours.
  • Free security setup: Your marketing department installs a free security padlock (SSL) on your address automatically. You do not need to buy extra security packages or spend time setting it up yourself.
